I think the answer is - Media ownership - and nothing else even comes close.
Civilian safety shouldn't even be controversial, and yet here we are. My answer to your question is the issue underneath yours: media ownership.
Whatever cause you care about, the one you called out included, reaches your eyes and ears through pipes owned by a handful of mega corporations, and it gets shaped on the way through to serve those owners. Which civilians get faces and names, which get rounded to a statistic, which conflicts lead the hour and which never appear. Those are editorial decisions made for you before you ever formed an opinion. Your politics end up being not where you stand, but where you've been told to stand.
I know the shaping works, because nobody spends a trillion dollars a year on something that doesn't.
So I think we need to focus on the root cause before the symptoms. Nothing gets fixed that people can't see clearly, and there are a handful of people with converging interests who control the media you are even able to consume, keeping everyone from seeing clearly.
We simply cannot fix something we cannot see. So every issue depends on fixing media ownership first.

I think human rights are one of the biggest issues today. No innocent person should have to live in fear or lose their home and family. We should all support peace, kindness, and justice for everyone.
