Everyone talks about the future as if it hasn’t arrived yet.
But what if we’re already living through the beginning of the post-work era?
Not because nobody works anymore.
Because the relationship between work, value, and identity has already started to change..

The future doesn't arrive with a press release. It just quietly becomes the present and most people miss it while waiting for the announcement.

When people talk about "Post Scarcity", I think they're referring to tangible necessities most of all. Food, clothing, housing, the things that if they were freely available and abundant would lead to a sense of freedom like no other event or series of events (as you put it) in history.
To me "post scarcity" is really all about the same reason you want a shit ton of money. The effects of having surplus money is the same as abundance, you get the freedom to focus on things that give you since of purpose and fulfillment, rather than scraping up your next meal or rent payment.

Right. And I think that we might actually already be there, or close to it, but like William Gibson said about the future, "It's already here, just not evenly distributed." Maybe we can say the same about abundance.
