Most of us have heard something like this growing up. Maybe we've even said it without realising what it does.

I listened to Bob LeMent on Positive Parenting 101, and one point really stayed with me.

Comparing a child doesn't necessarily make them work harder.

Sometimes it just teaches them that who they are isn't enough.

The more a child hears comparisons, the more they can start measuring their worth against everyone around them.

What if instead of asking children to catch up with someone else, we helped them see how far they've come themselves?

That small change could make a much bigger difference than we realise.
